The Real Value of Parking Signs

The truth is that we like our space. If we were to genuinely think about it, we need our space. But why are we so particular about our space? Why are we protective about our space as a business or as an institution? Well, whether we are a school or a private business, we know that we are reserving that space for patrons. But we can dive even further into this aspect, remember that land is finite and there is only so much space that exists within the world. If the land is finite and we only have so much space for our business, we want to make sure that we give our customers and patrons the convenience and value that they deserve.

That is why we have parking signs, custom tow away signs, notions of illegal parking, parking lot signs, traffic signs, zone sign options, and parking rules that we will post up. We may even place signposts, zone signs, and general parking signs to establish the nature of private parking. There are various forms of similar items that are present on the market that account for a wide variety of ways to say that violators will face consequences.

Yes, parking and company or institutional space are limited and it is reserved for people who are seeking to visit our place of business, whatever that business may be.

This form of warning provides individuals with a fair idea of what will happen and will enhance that notion of repercussions in their minds. This allows your entity to notify violators of the potential ramifications of overstepping their bounds without having to do so manually.

Best Tips for Property Management Signs

Property management signage is an essential component of any real estate business. It is used to inform tenants, visitors, and potential customers about the rules, regulations, and amenities of the property. Whether it is a commercial or residential property, proper signage ensures that everyone on the premises is aware of important information.

There are several types of property management signage that are commonly used. Each of these types serves a specific purpose and can be customized to fit the needs of the property.

Directional Signage

Directional signage is used to help people navigate the property. It includes signs that indicate where parking is located, where the main entrance is, where the elevators are, and where specific offices or units can be found. Directional signage is essential for ensuring that visitors can easily find their way around the property without getting lost or confused.

Safety Signage

Safety signage is used to alert people to potential hazards on the property. These signs include warning signs for wet floors, caution signs for areas with sharp objects, and fire exit signs. Safety signage is crucial for ensuring the safety of tenants and visitors on the property.

Rules and Regulations Signage

Rules and regulations signage is used to inform tenants and visitors about the rules of the property. These signs include no smoking signs, no pets signs, and speed limit signs for parking areas. Rules and regulations signage is essential for ensuring that everyone on the property is aware of the rules and regulations they need to follow.

Marketing Signage

Marketing signage is used to promote the property and its amenities. These signs include banners, posters, and digital displays that showcase the property's features, such as a fitness center, pool, or business center. Marketing signage is essential for attracting potential tenants and customers to the property.

Informational Signage

Informational signage is used to provide general information about the property. These signs include hours of operation, emergency contact information, and the property manager's contact information. Informational signage is crucial for ensuring that tenants and visitors have the information they need to navigate the property and contact the appropriate parties if necessary.

When designing property management signs, it is essential to consider several factors, such as the location of the property, the target audience, and the message that needs to be conveyed. Here are some tips for designing effective property management signage.

Keep it Simple

Effective property management signage should be easy to read and understand. Keep the message simple and straightforward, and use clear, concise language. Avoid cluttering the sign with too much information, as this can make it difficult to read and comprehend.

Choose the Right Font

The font used on the sign should be legible and easy to read from a distance. Avoid using script fonts or fonts with thin strokes, as these can be difficult to read from a distance. Choose a font that is bold and easy to read, such as Arial or Helvetica.

Use Contrasting Colors

The colors used on the sign should contrast well with each other to make the text easy to read. Avoid using colors that are too similar, as this can make the text blend in with the background. Use high-contrast colors, such as black and white or yellow and black, to make the text stand out.

Consider the Location

The location of the sign is also important when designing property management signage. Consider where the sign will be placed and what the surrounding environment looks like. For example, if the sign will be placed in a dimly lit area, use bright colors or illuminated signage to ensure that it is visible.

Make it Visually Appealing

Effective signage should be visually appealing and attract the viewer's attention. Use high-quality images, graphics, or logos to enhance the sign's overall look and feel. This will help to grab the viewer's attention

The Ins and Outs of Parking Permits

So you need to create parking permits. This is a great way to control any parking issues you have, while also adding another element to your branding and marketing mix for visibility.

Whether it’s temporary permits, hang tags, or ones to affix to a windshield, there are different considerations when deciding which format to go with. But before you just add a generic marketing piece to your print materials, think through how you would like to present your company through the use of permits.

Choosing a permit style

There are several temporary and permanent solutions to designing parking permits. Consider why you are needing to permit your parking before you begin designing. Do you need to differentiate staff and employees from visitors, keep unwanted vehicles from parking on your lot, or be able to easily revoke access to your parking lot? These are all considerations to take into account when deciding even the simplest of decisions in creating your permits.

Hang tags: Easy to distribute and display, larger product size for more text and instructions, easy to view for your parking staff, less expensive than other solutions

Windshield tags: Long-term solution for parking access, smaller with less obstructed view for driving, less chance for branding opportunities

Parking stickers: Displayed in sticker format on the exterior of a car for easy visibility, usually come with an expiration date, more permanent than other permit styles

Anchor Graphics has flexibility to create highly-visible permits for your situation, using materials that can withstand heat and cold, won’t fade, peel or crack and made with your choice of materials including reflective or holographic options. Keep reading to decide which style of permit is right for you.

Key considerations

Visibility

Think about what purpose you would like your permit to serve when determining style of permit, because location to affix the permit on their car will come into consideration. Hang tags are ultimately the most visible no matter where the car is parked, but they also can be more easily damaged or misplaced.

Parking layout

While it may not be the first thing that comes to mind, think about the actual space where these permits will be utilized. Is it a parking structure situation? Will there will be parallel parking, or will some who are issued permits be backing into spaces?

Weather

Another factor that some do not think of is the weather. If you are in a rainy area, you may want to consider a permit on the interior of the vehicle, that will not degrade or easily detach from the exterior of a car. But also, interior permits must stand up to extreme temperatures, sunlight and fading and humidity and condensation for long-term display.

Designing your permit

Don’t think of this as just another throw-away item. If you are wishing to use the permit as another branding opportunity for your business, think smartly about your design and permit style. Go to your company’s marketing department, or consult the branding guide for colors to use (another great way to differentiate between permit types - use your different brand colors!) Incorporate your logo if there is reasonable space to display it properly.

Are there specific instructions you need to include, such as a map to the parking area, locations where the permit is accepted, hours that the parking lot is open, or pricing structure? These are all factors to consider in the design. If additional instructions are needed on your parking permit, a hang tag where the opposite face provides information is likely the way to go for you.

For the side facing out of the vehicle, make sure that any necessary information (permit number, permit type, etc.) is easily visible from a distance. Your security team will thank you.

How To Create An Effective Tow Away Zone Sign

Several rules apply to car owners that are not limited to their driving or insurance and where they park their cars. A car is the owner’s property, and as such, it’s their responsibility to make sure that it is parked legally.

If you’re a business owner, providing parking space for your clients is one way of ensuring that they receive the best service. Unfortunately, certain drivers tend to park in spaces they’re not permitted to.

People parking in your business’s parking lot can be annoying. It may seem harmless, but the truth is it could mean lost revenue. The spaces taken up by these unauthorized cars will mean potential customers won’t have access to parking space for their cars, and they will go to other businesses.

So what’s the solution for such a problem?

You may consider calling the police, but there’s virtually nothing they can do about restricted parking on private property. Unless the car has blocked a public road, traffic enforcement agents can’t do anything to help.

The only way they might help is if the car poses a danger to others.

The most viable legal route to avoid such scenarios is to install parking signs such as tow-away zone signs.

All About Tow Away Zone Signs

A tow-away zone is an area where drivers are not allowed to park their cars. Cars packed at a tow-away zone will be towed. Tow away zone signs help keep delivery, emergency, or other important areas clear for immediate use when needed.

Creating customized tow-away zone signs is a simple and direct way of communicating to drivers that they shouldn’t park in a certain area. Here’s what you need to know about how you can go about the process.

The Raw Materials Involved

Tow away zone signs consist of three basic elements: sign copy, a blank surface, and background sheeting. The blank surface serves as the sign’s framework and is usually manufactured from steel, aluminum, or plywood.

Plywood is the cheapest option, and despite it being fairly strong, it is subject to damage from weather elements due to its porous nature. For them to last for longer, they have to be overlaid with a thin plastic layer.

Unlike steel, aluminum is not subject to rust.

It is also lighter and needs metal reinforcement along the back to enhance its rigidity. It is, however, the most expensive of the three and is commonly used to make traffic signs.

Steel is a cheaper alternative to aluminum. It is more sturdy and does not require reinforcing. It is susceptible to rust, but applying a coat of zinc can help avoid rust from forming.

The Production Process

After you’ve chosen which of the three materials listed above you prefer, a metal shear or band saw is used to cut out a blank surface. A punch machine is used to round corners before holes for mounting the sign are drilled through the material.

The blanks are then inspected for the presence of defects, grime, oil, or dirt. If there are any contaminants present, the blank is decontaminated through various processes until the water can flow evenly and completely over the surface.

The surface is wiped with mineral spirits and a dry, clean cloth to remove greasy fingerprints.

The sign’s shape is traced onto a 3.2mm (0.125 inches) wallboard after the retro-reflective sheet is cut by hand using a pair of scissors, a razor, or a paper cutter. However, a band saw can be more effective if there are multiple retro-reflective sheets involved.

The letters and symbols of the tow-away zone sign are punched out from black or white retro-reflective sheeting either with a clicker press or by hand. Cutting dies, which operate similarly to cookie-dough cutters, are placed on the machine to produce the set characters and graphics for your desired tow-away zone sign.

The sign is cracked through a squeeze-roller before the edges are trimmed to remove potential air bubbles trapped beneath the sheeting. The sign is put inside a heat lamp vacuum applicator for about a minute. It is then removed and allowed to cool.

It is finally covered with a slip sheet and retired to the heat lamp vacuum applicator for one last minute before completion.

Designing Your Parking Signs

For the best results, it’s recommended that you use a familiar text or image on your tow away zone signs, or drivers may not understand your message. However, a unique design may be more likely noticeable by drivers.

Also, make sure you use a compelling color as you customize the design of your tow-away zone sign. Think of McDonald’s yellow or Coke’s red. Color can sometimes communicate urgency better than any signed copy will do.

Consider the contrast since it helps determine how well a parking sign can be seen or read. The contrast between the text in the foreground and the background color is important in how the driver perceives the sign. Try to work with a bright color on a dark background, or vice versa.

Using a combination of two bright colors can compromise your sign’s readability.

The size of your signs also matters. The larger the letters, the easier it is for drivers to read. A good rule of thumb is working with a letter height of 10ft per inch such that a driver who’s as far as 100ft away can be able to read. Remember to use a simple font. A flowery typeface might prove difficult for drivers to understand.

The Bottom Line

While it is important to set up custom signs that communicate to drivers when they should stop, where not to enter, or what direction to go, it is just as important to tell your drivers, especially those not familiar with the premises, where parking is not allowed.

If you choose to ignore the problem, people will notice that they can get away with parking in a restricted area over time. More and more cars will flock to your parking areas, especially if finding parking lots is difficult within the surrounding area.

Before you know it, you have most of your spots taken up with limited parking space for employees and even customers. Such a scenario can be bad for business.

Tow away signs show that you mean business. Whether it’s a simple reminder or an aggressive ‘your car will be towed immediately,’ you are guaranteed to communicate an instant message to freeloaders.
